LEGAL SEA FOODS FUELS PAN-MASS CHALLENGE, DONATING 400 GALLONS OF ICONIC NEW ENGLAND CLAM CHOWDER

The New England-based restaurant brand continues decades-long partnership to support Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

BOSTON, MASS. – (August 2, 2024) – Legal Sea Foods, the iconic New England-based restaurant brand, is continuing its longstanding partnership with the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC). The restaurant is donating 400 gallons of its legendary New England Clam Chowder to the 45th PMC on August 3 - 4, 2024. Legal Sea Foods has been a beloved partner of the PMC for over 30 years.

“The Pan-Mass Challenge is an extraordinary event that brings together a community of dedicated individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the fight against cancer, said Matt King, Legal Sea Foods’ President and COO. “Supporting the extraordinary efforts by this organization is an honor and we are grateful for the opportunity to be a small part of the impact being made to find a cure.”

The PMC is a bike-a-thon across Massachusetts that raises more funds for charity than any other single athletic fundraising event in the world. Each August, thousands of riders and volunteers participate in the PMC, all with a common goal of finding a cure for cancer. This year, 6,800 riders are coming together with the goal of raising at least $75 million for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (Dana-Farber). For the 18th consecutive year, 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar from the PMC will be donated directly to Dana-Farber. In July 2024, the PMC crossed $1 billion in lifetime fundraising for the Institute since 1980.

“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Legal Sea Foods for this year’s PMC,” said Glynn Hawley, Director of Operations at the PMC. “Their generous donation of 400 gallons of New England Clam Chowder is not only a delicious treat for our riders, but a testament to their ongoing support that fuels our mission to fight cancer.”

The organization is Dana-Farber’s single largest contributor, accounting for 62 percent of the annual revenue at The Jimmy Fund. To learn more or to make a financial contribution to the cause, visit pmc.org, or call (800) WE-CYCLE. Connect with #PMC2024 on Facebook, X, Instagram and LinkedIn.

About the Pan-Mass Challenge

The Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) is a bike-a-thon that today raises more money for charity than any other single athletic fundraising event in the world. The PMC was founded in 1980 by Billy Starr, who remains the event's executive director, an annual cyclist, and a fundraiser. The PMC has since raised $972 million for adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. The event donates 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar directly to the cause, generating 62 percent of the Jimmy Fund's annual revenue as Dana-Farber's single largest contributor. The PMC has successfully melded support from committed cyclists, volunteers, corporate sponsors, and individual contributors, all of which are essential to the PMC's goal and model: to attain maximum fundraising efficiency while increasing its annual gift. The PMC's hope and aspiration is to provide Dana-Farber's doctors and researchers with the necessary resources to discover cures for all cancers.
